Street-smarts & Security
Moscow is a safe place to visit. Use common sense, and you will do fine.
Moscow downtown is particularly safe and is patrolled by police 24x7. Make sure that you have a copy (or the originals) of your passport and visa, and your temporary registration documents with you, in case if you get stopped by police for a documents check.
Some of Moscow suburbs may be a bit rough late at night. If you venture outside of the downtown at night, use an official taxicab to get there. Also, Moscow metro (subway) is safe, efficient, and cheap. The metro works until 1 o'clock at night.
ATM machines are available throughout the city, especially in the downtown areas. You can withdraw money in US dollars, Euro, or Russian rubles.
English is not widely spoken in Moscow, but in the downtown area you will get by without much problems. English is well spoken in most tourist establichments. Young professional Russians are more likely to speak English than older Russian folks. If you don't speak English or Russian, you may wish to get a local interpreter to help you around.
Moscow authorities require that all Moscow visitors get temporary registration papers to indicate where they stay in Moscow. If you stay with us, we will take care of the registration papers for you. You need to show them to customs in Moscow airport when you leave. If you don't have those papers with you, Russian exit control officers may subject you to a fine in the airport, and may delay your departure.
If you have any problems, call us any time at (495) 662-0400. We are here to help you 24x7.
Enjoy your stay!
